New Pathways in the 21st Century

In 2003, Christian Schwarz-Schilling established a foundation in order to create an appropriate frame for his many years of work for international understanding and the development of civil societies in many regions. Together with Maria do Rosário Almeida Ritter, Thomas Mann and Friedhelm Ost as colleagues in the foundation council, the founder has since been committing himself in particular in areas where help, dialogue, diplomacy and scientific expertise are in demand.

According to its statute, the Schwarz-Schilling foundation serves among others to advance

  • international ideas, tolerance in all fields of culture, and understanding among nations,
  • aid for victims of political, racial or religious persecution, refugees and displaced persons,
  • as well as the support of education and science.

The foundation directs its attention to various areas and regions within the framework of this large-scale foundation purpose. Its work always is adjustable to the changing conditions in the individual countries. Presently, Bosnia-Herzegovina in particular presents a vast sphere of activity for the founder who has committed himself on site for decades for the support of the understanding among the nations.

But the conditions in China, too, present a field of work for the foundation. Functioning as a neutral interlocutor, the foundation has been trying for years to support the relations between Chinese and Tibetans by promoting the understanding among peoples and supporting tolerance and dialogue.

The founder and his allies in the foundation council want to employ their various and unique experience and relations and they offer creative and exceptional assistance in the framework of their foundation work. Thus a contribution is meant to be made towards more stability, safety and prosperity.
